Jewelry and Furniture for the Bath

An elegant tenant for any upscale location, a niche retailer that satisfies practical needs with stylish shopping experiences.

Did you ever stop and think to yourself:   Dang . . . I have remodeled my entire estate, but look at the 'john' . . . the porcelain just does nothing for me . . . there are no sparks anymore when I shower or bathe?  If so, Peter Sallick, president and CEO of Waterworks, will bring bliss (and European styling) to your personal hygiene experience.  The Sallick family started the Connecticut-based Waterworks in 1978 after decades of experience in the bath industry.  From its inception, Waterworks has tried to establish itself as the source for the finest in integrated bath design.  The company decided to focus on the classic designs of England and France, not historic reproductions but new adaptations of these graceful styles.  To view their catalog is to understand why this niche retailer will be a welcome tenant in any upscale location.

Waterworks has a wide selection of sinks, water closets and bathtubs.   The sinks range from marble-topped lavatories with metal legs to white porcelain designs with turn-of-the-century details.  Tubs are deep and luxurious.   Materials are varied, from acrylic to enameled cast iron.  Drama is offered in freestanding tubs with cast-iron legs.  Fascinating choices and options are offered so that you can create your own personal escape -- from the perfect throne room to conference bath, whatever your water pleasure.

Peter Sallick started as a trade supplier of European bath hardware.   When he joined the family business in 1993 his goal was to help establish Waterworks as the most outstanding retailer in the bath industry.  The company's home base is Danbury, Connecticut, but Waterworks currently has 23 showrooms throughout America.  All showrooms are serviced through a central operation in Connecticut.

At any location, whether in Soho or Midtown Manhattan, in Boston, Dallas, San Francisco, or Washington DC - the shopper is presented with an elegant boutique environment where service is emphasized.  Each location provides the same dramatic Waterworks shopping experience: a series of three-wall display "vignettes" which allow a customer to experience different Waterworks designs staged as bathing theaters in the round.

Waterworks has also created a collection of original bath fixtures and unique furniture for the bath known as the Waterworks Collection.  The collection began with the premise that elements necessary to complete the Waterworks concept were not offered by the industry.  So Waterworks creates their own fill-in products and designs.  Included in the collection is a line of wood furniture that brings original storage ideas to the bathroom.  A second line of metal furniture is in development.

Waterworks also offers full lines of textiles, personal care products, and aromatics that cover the complete range of essentials and accessories necessary to bring absolute comfort and luxury to any bathing sanctuary.

The collection was so successful that it spawned a second retail concept known as the Waterworks Collection.  The flagship store opened in May 1998 in New York's Soho district.

An expression used on the Waterworks web site best sums up the Waterworks identity as "Jewelry for the Bathroom".

Several Waterworks stores are found in "design centers."   But the strong retail concept lends itself to freestanding operations and upscale downtown locations.  Store square footage ranges from 1,600 to 5,000 and the company looks to locate near luxury retail, better/upscale restaurants and better/upscale home furnishing tenants.
