Get a tough, yet stylish, workout with YAS

It’s often said that it’s better to look good than to feel good. Well, now shoppers/gym rats can do both at YAS, a popular new fitness center that combines Yoga and Spinning (YAS) with a stylish line of workout clothing.

After a challenging workout, which has been described as the perfect Yin-Yang workout that mixes a unique combination of high intensity instructor-led cardio-spinning with the flexibility enhancing, relaxation benefits of Yoga, the YAS clothing line keeps things simple.

Forget wearing that sweaty shirt out on the street or rushing home to change clothes for your day at the office. YAS Wear features women’s items primarily, including sweat pants, tank tops and hoodies with a “workout-to-work” style. The items carry fashionable touches such as flared bottoms with a “hint of class.” In other words, people aren’t going to look at a woman in YAS wear and think she just came from a workout.

The clothing line offers a color palette in basic green, gray, black, and white so the cardio consumers can mix and match. Tanks, tees, hoodies, fleece pants and capris are all screen printed with the YAS logo.

Kimberly Fowler founded the YAS Yoga & Spinning fitness center three years ago in a Venice, CA neighborhood on the Westside. The place features exercise bicycles for group workouts set to music along with space dedicated to yoga sessions. The YAS location in Venice is housed in a 70-year-old building at the intersection of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Westminster Avenue, but Fowler now plans to open up a second shop in one of downtown’s newest buildings. The exercise entrepreneur is in the process of preparing the new location at the Met Lofts residential complex that’s in the final stages of construction at the intersection of Hope and 11th Streets. Initial schedules call for the Downtown YAS location to open sometime this month. Fowler said many of her clients at the Westside location work downtown and they are the ones that pushed for a second location closer to their offices.

Many celebrities, including Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston, have been spotted by the paparazzi wearing the trademark sweatpants of YAS. That, in turn, has increased the sales of the company’s clothing dramatically. YAS Wear is sold exclusively at the YAS Yoga & Spinning Centers and online at www.go2yas.com. Items include tank tops that range from $20 to $30, hoodies from $25 to $40, and fleece, yoga and capri pants from $40 to $45. Other accessory items include a water bottle for $6.50, socks for $9.50, and towels ranging from $10 to $20.

The cost for the YAS classes are, as follows: a single class for $15 ($10 for students), $175 for one month, $420 for three months, $725 for six months and $1,200 for a full year. Multiple class packages are $70 for five classes, $130 for 10 classes, $180 for 15 classes and $210 for 20 classes.

YAS classes range from 75 to 90 minutes, while Yoga For Athletes is one hour long. In Yoga For Athletes, there are no speeches, there is no chanting; it is just one full hour of movement. Yoga For Athletes is a practice combining elements of Iyengar, Ashtanga and Power Yoga.
