Future Club Libby Lu offers an interactive makeover experience for young girls by Joe Dyton Young girls who are looking for somewhere fun to shop and a cool place to hang out with their friends can now kill two birds with one stone courtesy of Club Libby Lu. The stores, which feature cosmetic products, accessories and clothing, also serves as a club with numerous membership privileges. Club Libby Lu caters to girls between six and 12 years old. The club boasts a group-oriented, totally interactive experience as girls can come into the stores and sign-up for a free membership. The stores feature a computer kiosk where girls can register and become a Very Important Princess (V.I.P.) Benefits of joining the club include a rewards program card that gets members free merchandise, an official membership card key chain, which is good for V.I.P. only deals and events, 10% off purchases made the day the member joins as well as 10% off purchases made every Tuesday and a free gift on Wednesdays if the member is in a Girl Troop. Club Libby Lu also mails its members a V.I.P. newsletter and sends special offers and invitations to club events via email. Members also will gain access to the V.I.P. members only website. The Club Libby Lu stores are broken up into four zones. Libby’s Lab holds the store’s cosmetic cases and fragrances. In the lab, members get to create their own lip-gloss and bath gels with the club’s vast array of sparkles, colors and fragrances. Inside Libby’s Closet, V.I.P.’s can find assorted apparel. Libby’s Room offers bedroom accessories like telephones and stuffed animals. The final zone is the Style Studio, where members can try out a new look, more specifically, a Libby Du. The styles Club Libby Lu offers include Drama Queen, She Rocks!, Rising Star and Sparkle Princess. The club also offers a fifth style, which changes each season. This season’s Du is Trend Setter, which features two pink and purple hair clips. The Style Studio also allows members to go through the makeover experience with their mothers. The “Mom & Me” experience costs $20 for the V.I.P, while Mom’s Libby Du is free. Club Libby Lu also hosts birthday and group parties, which are overseen by club counselors. The guest of honor gets to choose one of the club’s Style Studio makeovers. At the party, the birthday girl and her guests get transformed into the makeover of her choice. The guests will also get to custom design their own party favors gifts from the club’s “Pick A Mix.” The party packages include an accessory, a glittery touch, five treasures from Pick A Mix in a Libby Lu backpack and three star-studded crystal tattoos. The party also features the “Wheel of Fame and Fortune” game and a musical train where the party girls learn to dance to the Club Libby Lu beat. The finale is a group dance and sing-a-long. Party packages range from $20 to $30. Club Libby Lu currently operates more than 74 locations throughout AL, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA and WI. The stores occupy spaces of 1,350 sq.ft. to 1,600 sq.ft. in freestanding locations and malls. Plans call for 25 openings nationwide during the coming 18 months. Typical leases run 10 years.
