The Rockledge Group will build a three-story building on Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence, KS. The 18,000 sq.ft. building will consist of retail on the ground floor and offices on the top two. Down the block, Bob Schumm wants to build a two-story Victorian style building with 5,000 sq.ft., all devoted to retail. Massachusetts Street has seen a large influx of national retailers in the past 18 months.

The Pyramid Companies is expanding the Carousel Center in Syracuse, NY. The mega-regional center is planned to include 4.5 million sq.ft. making it the largest center in the United States. Within the complex the company plans a sports-themed concourse featuring such tenants as L.L. Bean, Cabella and Bass Pro Shops.

Mandalay Resort Group will build a retail center connecting the company’s Mandalay Bay and Luxor resorts at the North end of the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, NV. Plans were confirmed at the American Gaming Summit but specifics have yet to be released.

The City of Long Beach, CA Redevelopment Agency Board will develop a 10,000 sq.ft. center to house community services and retail and possibly a bank at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 19th Street in Long Beach, CA. The property was purchased through eminent domain from Grant Wilson.

Spire Realty Group is redeveloping the former Mercantile National Bank in Dallas, TX. The area will include 117,000 sq.ft. of retail space after $85 million in renovations. The site located at Main and Ervay Streets is a four-building complex and developers are seeking $22 million in public sector support for the project.

Mills Corporation has proposed filling in 205 acres of wetlands to build the 2.1 million sq.ft. Hackensack Meadowlands Mall. The company would remediate 380 acres of degraded wetlands in exchange but has yet to get approval from the Army Corps of Engineers. The plan has been opposed by The U.S. Department of Interior, National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have asked the Corps to deny the request. A smaller version of the project may be built on land bought from the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

Flad Development is redeveloping the former Borders Book Shop in Madison, WI. The 15,504 sq.ft. specialty center has subdividable space available with exposure on the main campus drive to the University of Wisconsin. Area demographics include a population count of 90,000 residing in a three-mile radius earning an average annual household income of $65,000. The average daily traffic count is 53,000 cars. The renovation is scheduled to be complete fall 2002.

Lerner Corporation is developing the 60,000 sq.ft. Town Court, an addition to the Dulles Town Center in Dulles, VA. The new wing will open simultaneously with a 144,000 sq.ft. Nordstrom store. Nordstrom will join Hecht’s, Lord & Taylor, JC Penney and Sears as the center’s fifth anchor. The center is located in Loudoun County, VA the third fastest growing county in the country and just outside Fairfax County, one of the nation’s most affluent counties.
