Moonlight Graham Becomes A Chain Moonlight Graham, a high-quality manufacturer of better men’s and children’s vintage-retro designed licensed sportswear featuring Major League Baseball, Cadbury-Schweppes, Anheuser-Busch, General Motors and Universal Studios will be expanding times five, over the next six months. The retail investor Denim Apparel Group, Inc. will oversee the expansion. Moonlight Graham operates a newly remodeled store at 7669 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, CA and numerous kiosks at Major League Baseball stadiums around the country. Denim Apparel Group has signed leases in Chicago’s Lincoln Park Area, set to open this month, Sawgrass Mills in FL, slated to open this September, Thompson Street near New York University in New York City, scheduled to open June 5th, and for a location in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The company is in negotiations for a site in Boston’s Newbury Street shopping district. Not only is the company growing its store count, but also its merchandise mix with a line of sportswear for women being launched this month.
Giving his excited viewpoint of Moonlight Graham’s recent business opportunities, Eric Joffe, the CEO of Denim Apparel Group, Inc., states, “One of the greatest opportunities in the acquisition of Moonlight Graham was to roll out the retail store concept across America and take one of the great brand secrets in America and turn Moonlight Graham into a well-known brand synonymous with American retro kitsch pop culture. With these store openings in major markets, we are on our way to achieving that goal.”
Yet no one seems to be as thrilled with the expansion plans as Bart Silberman. The president of Moonlight Graham, adds, “The Moonlight Graham Retail experience will be a cornucopia slash treasure trove of unique pop culture items that augment our lines of licensed apparel. The stores will merge the best of books, DVDs, gifts and apparel to represent America’s pop culture. The Moonlight Graham stores will be a one of a kind shopping experience bringing our customers back to days gone by.”
While continuing to expand its vigorous US distribution, Moonlight Graham is about to embark on a major expansion of international distribution and company owned retail stores throughout America. Along with Moonlight Graham’s current store in Los Angeles, all of the stores will occupy spaces of 900 sq.ft. to 1,200 sq.ft. in malls and tourist and entertainment centers. According to Silberman, Moonlight Graham desires locations on high-end, underground streets and near amusement parks, movie theaters and entertainment businesses. The company’s preferred demographics include a population that is interested in sports and pop culture. Its preferred cotenants Abercrombie & Fitch, Lucky Brands and Urban Outfitters, while Blue Marlin and Lucky Brands are cited as competition. Moonlight Graham’s typical leases run three to five years. Denim Apparel Group, Inc. (DPGP), formerly known as Kingdom Ventures, Inc., is a company devoted to the “roll-up” of the quality sportswear and denim business. The company’s goal is to acquire apparel companies that are currently doing sales in the two to five million-dollar ranges, with the potential to grow in excess of $10 million in sales. It is the ultimate goal of the Denim Apparel Group to grow greater than $50 million in sales within a three-year period.
