Blatteis & Schnur, the retail, restaurant and entertainment leasing subsidiary of Blatteis Realty Company, Inc., continues to expand its national presence with the opening of a Las Vegas office under the direction of Frank Volk, senior vice president and managing partner. The company announced its representation of Crunch Fitness, Jekyll & Hyde Club and The Cheesecake Factory with recent leasing agreements. Scott Schuster, Robert Schnur and Barry Laskov brokered a $6-million 10-year lease with two five-year options for Crunch Fitness, a New York-based national health club chain, at Marina City in Chicago. Crunch Fitness will occupy 30,000 sq.ft. in the project, which includes a House of Blues Hotel, several restaurants and an AMF interactive 35-lane bowling alley. As exclusive leasing agent for Jekyll & Hyde Club, Blatteis & Schnur also inked a long-term lease for the spooky themed restaurant concept at North Bridge in Chicago. The new location will be Jekyll & Hydes first venue outside Manhattan. Robert Schnur, Neal Rosenfield and Scott Schuster cut the deal for 27,000 sq.ft. at the project.
Schnur, a partner in Blatteis & Schnur, has also become the exclusive national leasing representative for The Cheesecake Factory, based in Calabasa Hills, California, which will debut its first location in Northern California on the top floor of Macys Union Square in San Francisco. The casual-dining restaurant, occupying approximately 12,000 sq.ft., will feature a private-access elevator and will include a 2,700-sq.ft. open-air dining terrace overlooking the San Francisco skyline.

Florida-based Polar Ice Entertainment Inc. is introducing state-of-the-art hockey and figure skating entertainment facilities across the United States. The company opened a location in Chandler, Arizona during July and is getting ready to open a second Arizona location in Peoria. Other locations under development include: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Polar Ice is developing a facility that will incorporate a 4,000-seat arena and be home to the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, a United States Hockey League team; and the Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Texas. Other locations in Colorado, Nevada, California, Tennessee and Texas are being pursued for openings during the year 2000.
Interiors sport a retro design with modern lighting, live disc jockeys and advanced stereo systems. Every facility features two regulation-sized and/or Olympic-sized ice surfaces, a video and interactive game area and a full sports retail store. A Sbarros Italian Eatery is also prominent in each Polar Ice rink.

A 200,000-sq.ft. Burdines is the anchor for the new wing at the Florida Mall in Orlando, Florida. The wing will host 43 new shops and restaurants, boosting the mall to 1.6 million-sq.ft. and more than 250 stores. If county officials approve an expansion plan, Nordstrom will anchor another concourse to open in 2002.

Bertuccis Chain Unveiling New Concept
Joey Crugnale, creator of the Bertuccis chain, is rolling out Jumbalaya Restaurants, a new concept that features Louisiana-style dishes as well as fajitas, salads, burgers, soups and sandwiches. Crugnale leased 5,000 sq.ft. for the latest concept at 920 Commonwealth Avenue in the Commonwealth Place Development in Boston, Massachusetts. Jumbalaya has two units operating in Danvers and Cambridge, MA. Crugnale plans to open several new restaurants this fall and winter.

Vaughn Mills, a joint venture between The Mills Corporation and Cambridge Shopping Centers Ltd., received commitments from six American retailers for space in the Toronto, Canada project scheduled to open in fall 2001. The tenants, who will be opening their first locations in Toronto, include: Bed Bath & Beyond; Group USA, which features better-name womens casual and career apparel, shoes and accessories from top designers; Off Rodeo Drive Beverly Hills, an indoor replica of the expensive Beverly Hills, CA shopping area featuring complete wardrobes at 30 percent to 70 percent off Rodeo Drive prices; Sun & Ski Sports, an outdoor sporting goods retailer; Vans, offering alternative sport and lifestyle footwear and apparel; and BCBG, which sells high-end designer womens apparel at affordable prices.
Vaughn Mills is the first international endeavor for The Mills Company and will offer 1.4 million sq.ft. featuring 200 retail stores, restaurants and amusements venues.

dick clark restaurants inc., a subsidiary of dick clark productions inc., will open its tenth Dick Clarks American Bandstand Grill® in May 2000 as a part of the grand reopening of the now-being-renovated 1.2 million-sq.ft. Ridgmar Mall in Fort Worth, Texas. The grill will be located in 7,000 sq.ft. near the malls new AMC 18-screen movie theater.

800-JR Cigar, Inc. completed negotiations with Bank Leumi for the lease of a 5,000-sq.ft., midtown cigar emporium on the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue at 46th Street in New York. The new location will replace the companys existing store at 11 East 45th Street and will feature prestigious cigar brands and a full range of JR proprietary brands. SWS Architects, who designed the JR Cigar stores in Paramus and Whippany, New Jersey and at One Wall Street Court in New Yorks financial district, has been retained to create a two-story, turn-of-the-century design for the new location, scheduled to open in January 2000.

Abacoa Town Center, a one-million-sq.ft. mixed-use retail, office and apartment complex in Jupiter, Florida, will house the Hibel Museum Gallery featuring the artwork of world-famous American artist Edna Hibel. George de Guardiola, president of de Guardiola Development Ventures, says the 1,612-sq.ft. gallery is scheduled to open in summer 2000.
Abacoa leased 5,810 sq.ft. to Columbus, Ohio-based Damons for its sports-themed restaurant. The Walking Shoe Store will open a 1,612-sq.ft. store, its fourth Florida location.

Chicago, Illinois-based Theatreplex Entertainment Properties, Inc., a real estate operating company specializing in the ownership of freestanding movie theaters and theater-anchored retail centers, purchased the Regal Georgesville Square 16, a 3,336-seat movie theater in Columbus, Ohio. Theatreplex bought the theater from Glimcher Properties Limited Partnership, the operating partnership for Glimcher Realty Trust, for $7.8 million. The theater is the entertainment anchor for Georgesville Square, a new 230,000-sq.ft. community shopping center.

Tartine et Chocolat signed a 12-year lease for a 2,200-sq.ft. store at 1047 Madison Avenue. The retailer sells upscale French childrens apparel and already has stores in Beverly Hills, Miami, Chicago, and Boston. Robert Cohen, senior managing director of Robert K. Futterman & Associates, Inc., arranged the deal by purchasing the lease out of bankruptcy from the womens wear retailer Barami.

Augusta, Georgia-based Pickles and Ice Cream maternity store signed a lease at Caffery Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. It will be the upscale maternity retailers first location in Louisiana. Pickles and Ice Cream has two other locations in Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama.

Shaker Square on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio is being prepared for a $20-million makeover. Owner Larry Albert has agreed to sell Shaker Square to a group of real estate investors who are planning to redevelop the retail area with a gourmet market, a large bookstore and an expanded movie theater. The 70-year-old landmark is on the national register of historic places.

The Muvico Knoxville 24, according to Muvico President Hamid Hashemi, will be the most innovative entertainment venue in Tennessee when it opens sometime in 2000. The new theater will accommodate approximately 4,700 patrons and anchor The Pavillion at Turkey Creek, an entertainment retail complex. Muvico Knoxville 24 will feature an on-site childcare facility.

A limited partnership led by Peter L. Malkin and Anthony E. Malkin made use of a tax-deferred exchange and acquired the Gotham retail condominium on the northwest corner of Third Avenue and East 86th Street in Manhattans Upper East Side. The property was purchased for $17.125 million from an investment group that includes Zeckendorf Realty, L.P., Goldman Sachs & Co., and Starwood Capital. W&M Properties represented the buyer and Zeckendorf Realty represented the seller.
The retail condo contains approximately 56,500 sq.ft. at the base of a mixed-use development that includes 239 residential units. Retail tenants are a Sony Loews multiplex theater operating in 48,500 sq.ft., The Bombay Company in 4,750 sq.ft., and Aeropostale in 3,250 sq.ft.
The Malkin family leads limited partnerships and other entities that own and operate commercial and residential properties in seven states. The Gotham property is the first of several acquisitions the Malkin group expects to make in the near future under tax-deferred exchange rules.

Andrew A. Pittel of Garrick-Aug Associates Store Leasing, Inc. arranged a long-term lease for Jandreani, the Italian custom shoe designer, at 958 Third Avenue in Manhattan. The 1,000-sq.ft. store, which will be the designers second location in New York, is expected to open this fall. The retailers original Manhattan store is on East 60th Street near Second Avenue.
