Scottsdale Waterfront
Scottsdale, Arizona

Believe it or not, there is actually waterfront property in Arizona. The Scottsdale Waterfront, situated alongside 1,800 linear feet of the Arizona Canal, will convert an aging shopping center in the heart of the city’s downtown into a waterfront development. The result will be a refined yet inviting community of shops, restaurants, cafes, offices, residential units and major retailers that is expected to attract visitors from all over the state.

Twelve and a half acres of ground have already been broken on this 600,000-sq.ft. project, which will house a variety of nationally recognized upscale retailers new to Arizona, as well as local stores in an energy-rich, water-themed setting. The Scottsdale Waterfront will also contain restaurants, nightclubs, cafes and a residential component, all situated along pedestrian-friendly waterfront walkways, outdoor plazas and water-themed paseos. This design will create an old-world charm and intimacy. Tenants who have already committed to the project include Borders Books and Music, Cheesecake Factory, Coldwater Creek, FAO Schwarz, Harry’s Bar and Tables, Northern Possessions, Pierre’s Pastry Cafe, Porta Bella, Portico Bed and Bath, Pucci Salon and Sur La Table.

The project is being developed in a joint venture by Mashburn-Hope Ltd. and Starwood Capital Group LLC in cooperation with the City of Scottsdale in an effort to redevelop the misused and unsightly canal area into a water-themed attraction that could serve as an upscale urban center, providing important links between the major districts of the downtown area. The developers chose Nelsen Architects Inc., an internationally renowned firm based in Scottsdale with a diverse portfolio of projects that have been completed all over the United States and Australia, for the Scottsdale Waterfront’s design and implementation. In addition to adjacency to the canal, the water theme is maintained through scattered fountains, a 55-foot waterfall in the project’s interior, and other water-related features.

Walkways and trolley services will provide easy access to the neighboring Nordstom and Scottsdale Fashion Square, turning the Waterfront and its surroundings into a significant destination. The Waterfront is also located just across the canal from Scottsdale’s Arts and Gallery District and near the recently renovated Scottsdale Civic Center and the new Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
