Autobacs Seven Co. expanding into the U.S. 4 Mall Tenants

A little bit of the Far East has arrived on the West Coast, in the form of an automotive store that would make fans of the Fast and the Furious movies excited.
Autobacs Seven Co., Ltd., a publicly traded company on the Tokyo, Osaka and London stock exchanges, recently opened its first U.S. Super Autobacs “Car-Life” retail store located at 12645 Beach Boulevard in Stanton, CA. Autobacs Seven is Japan’s largest automotive aftermarket parts and accessories retailer. The new Super Autobacs store, located in Orange County, is geared toward the avid auto enthusiast and occupies a space of 35,000 sq.ft. The stores sell brand-name and original merchandise complete with specialty installation, maintenance and car customization bays on site.
The Super Autobacs mega store carries more than 80 brands and 10,000 products, including brand-name accessories for both American and imported cars. Shoppers entering the store will be greeted with clearly designated departments, making the products easier to find. Not only can customers purchase basic things like tires, wheels, air fresheners and performance parts, but they can also find items like custom audio systems, security and GPS systems, bumpers and grills, unique gadgets, collectibles, specialty books, sunglasses and other original car and SUV-related merchandise.
The store even houses a service department, which offers on-site audio and parts installation, car customization and certified maintenance service. For the auto voyeur, the store has a viewing room cafe, where customers can sit, snack and watch their cars being worked on.
The Stanton, CA location includes 20,000 sq.ft. on the first floor, 5,000 sq.ft. of second-floor space for accessories and 10,000 sq.ft. for the service department, which includes 14 bays. Two bays will be for audio-visual installation, four will be for tires and wheel alignment and two “heavy hitter” bays will be for engine upgrades. However, what separates this store from other auto retailers will be the way the items are displayed. Instead of having the product on the shelves, the actual items will be available for the customer to handle.
Autobacs Seven was established in 1948 as a wholesaler and retailer of automobile parts. The first store opened in Osaka, Japan in 1974. Since then, the company has become known as Japan’s main source for auto parts and service. Currently, the company operates 500 Autobacs franchise stores across Japan and overseas.
The company also is setting up an information and sales network for used cars called Autobacs C@rs, a series of terminals installed at Autobacs stores that pulls together used-car information from other Autobacs locations and affiliated dealers throughout Japan. Large-scale used-car exhibition lots are also being established so buyers can browse among hundreds of standard, customized and other vehicles in a single location.
